IBM 46X1290 LTO Ultrium 5 blanco datacartridge, 1,5 TB / 3 TB

The IBM 46X1290 blank data tape is an LTO Ultrium Generation 5 cartridge offering a native capacity of 1.5 TB (up to 3 TB with 2:1 compression). The cartridge uses an 846 m tape with a thickness of 6.4 µm and a width of 105.4 mm. It is designed for reliable backup and long-term archiving, compatible with LTO Gen 5 drives and libraries and featuring an embedded LTO cartridge Memory (LTO-CM) chip for faster cartridge-dependent data transfer during load and unload operations.

Advantages

The cartridge delivers high native capacity in a single media format, reducing the number of tapes, equipment and handling required for large backup and archive jobs. It supports both rewritable and WORM models and complies with I/T data encryption standards. Dual-partition capability and the embedded LTO-CM chip improve performance for time-encoding applications and increase operational reliability when used with LTO Gen 5 drives.

Suitable for

• Long-term data archiving
• Periodic full backups and offsite storage
• Data centers needing high-capacity, low-power-at-rest storage
• Environments requiring WORM media or encryption support

Use appropriate backup software to configure full or incremental backup jobs, enable encryption if required, and manage retention policies. For systems using dual-partition functionality, configure the drive and application software to take advantage of time-encoding or partition-specific workflows.

Recommendations

Store cartridges in a cool, dry environment away from magnetic fields and direct sunlight. Follow manufacturer guidelines for handling and loading to preserve media life. Use the embedded LTO-CM information with supported drives to improve reliability and performance.
