HPE Aruba 9004 (RW) gateway – 4 poorten, GbE, ZigBee, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 (R1B21A)

The HPE Aruba Networking Aruba 9004 gateway is a compact network appliance for small to medium branch deployments, providing SD-WAN and security functions with support for Ethernet LAN at 100/1000 Mbit/s. It can be deployed as a single gateway or as part of a clustered group for high availability and resiliency. The device includes LEDs for LAN, Status, WAN and WLAN and supports console access via an RJ-45 port. Typical power consumption is 25 W with AC input 90–264 V, 47–63 Hz. Management and configuration are performed through Aruba Central, a cloud-based operations and security platform; an optional mobile installer app is available to simplify on-site setup.

Advantages

The Aruba 9004 combines SD-WAN and security capabilities in a compact form factor suitable for branch offices, offering centralized cloud management through Aruba Central and the ability to cluster multiple units for redundancy. It supports common encryption algorithms such as 3DES and AES and provides clear status monitoring via front-panel LEDs. Its wide AC input range and moderate power consumption make it suitable for typical branch power environments.

Suitable for

• Small to medium branch offices requiring SD-WAN and unified security
• Deployments needing high availability through gateway clustering
• Environments where cloud-based centralized management (Aruba Central) is preferred
• Sites with standard Ethernet LAN (100/1000 Mbit/s) and RJ-45 console access

Key specifications

• Product: HPE Aruba Networking Aruba 9004 (MPN: R1B21A)
• Network interfaces: Ethernet LAN 100/1000 Mbit/s
• Security: supports 3DES and AES encryption algorithms
• Indicators: LAN, Status, WAN, WLAN LEDs
• Console: RJ-45
• Power consumption: typical 25 W; AC input 90–264 V, 47–63 Hz
• Management: Aruba Central cloud management; optional mobile installer app

How to use

Install the Aruba 9004 in the branch network and connect LAN and WAN interfaces to the appropriate network segments. Power the unit from a compatible AC source (90–264 V, 47–63 Hz) and verify LED indicators for link and status. Access the console via the RJ-45 port if local configuration or troubleshooting is required. For typical deployments, register and configure the gateway in Aruba Central to provision SD-WAN policies, security settings and monitoring. Multiple gateways can be clustered in the same branch to provide failover and increased resiliency.

Recommendations

Use Aruba Central for centralized policy management and monitoring, apply AES-based encryption for VPN and SD-WAN tunnels, and, where availability is important, deploy at least two gateways in a clustered configuration. Ensure firmware is kept up to date via Aruba Central and follow site power and grounding best practices.
